Grounding
Tying an answer to external evidence
Supplying current or authoritative material—documents, database rows, search results, tool output—and asking the model to answer from it. Grounding can reduce unsupported claims, but poor sources or retrieval still produce poor answers.
Concrete example
A policy assistant quotes the relevant handbook section and links to it rather than answering from memory alone.
